Branches Community Center
Working closely with the amazing work that Branches does in South Florida to help lower-income and needy families, WHA designed a ground-up 10,000.00 SF facility for their program located in Florida City. WHA studied how this organization worked with school-age children as well as young adults and created a facility that would function as classrooms, as an outreach, and as a church. The facility was designed in an old-Florida style to help blend in with the surrounding homes, and to also give a feeling of warmth and comfort to the users. Wrap-around porches, large overhangs, and energy-efficient Daikin cooling systems were used to create a very green structure. The multipurpose room and kitchen work to feed children during the week and then functions as a worship space over the weekend. The bell-tower is structurally supported on all four sides by a trinity of crosses, created from reinforced concrete.
